The Pacific is a small group of nations in the Pacific Ocean. Guam is officially known as the Territory of Guam, which is an island in the Western Pacific Ocean, and is territory of the United States. Guam is one of five U.S. Territories with an established civil government. The capital of Guam is Hagatna (formerly known as Agana). The island is the largest and southernmost of the Mariana Islands. The island has a long history of European colonization which began in 1688 and ended in 1898. Guam's principal economy is derived from tourism.

Located in the western Pacific, northeast of Australia, Marshall Islands is archipelago encompassing 29 atolls and 5 coral islands which covers over 2 million kilometers² (3.2 million miles²) of ocean. There are two main groups in which the islands are divided: Ratak (“sunny east”) and Ralik (“sunny west”). The Marshallese are of Micronesian origin and their matrilineal culture revolves around complicated system of clans and lineages tied to land ownership. Almost all Marshallese are Christian, most of them Protestant. Official language is Marshallese.

Nauru is a small Pacific atoll located in Micronesia . It is an independent republic within the British Commonwealth and is said to be the smallest independent republic in the world. The island's inner lagoon has been reduced to a small lake. Most of the population has Micronesian and Polynesian origins. Nauruans are mostly Christians; Protestant or Catholic. Official languages are English and Nauruan.


Papua New Guinea is just north of Australia and one of the main nations of the South Pacific. Not a very well visited toruist destiantion despite a country of exceltional beauty and ease to reach. Papua New Guinea is developing the tourism industry and in recent years more hotels have opened and improving tourism infrastructure. Everything about this country is unspoiled and therefore naturally rough around the edges, which makes Papua New Guinea a superb choice for those looking to get off the beaten path. From the jagged limestone cliffs and coastline to mud and moss forests, this is a hiker's dream come true. Unique tropical animals abound, and visitors can easily spot small tree kangaroos or gigantic Queen Alexandra Birdwing butterflies in the vast and remote PNG countryside.

The Republic of Kiribati is a small Island country located in the middle of Pacific Ocean . It consists of 32 atolls and one upraised coral island. The country name is the local derivation of Gilbert Island , the main Island chain.

Vanuatu is not a well-trodden travel destination primarily because of its lack of infrastructure, but also because it is not a cheap place to travel. The largest city, Port Vila on the island of Efate , is more like a town with just two paved roads and a few essential stores, but it sees the highest population of tourists as the only international airport is about twenty minutes from the city center.

American Samoa is an Island situated at the main center of Polynesia . It consists of seven Islands : the commonly known ones are Ofu, Olosega and Tau, which have volcanic origins. Of more interest to visitors is the chieftaincy structure with which Samoan community has been administered; which civilization has not been able to take away from Samoan culture.

Solomon Islands stand out among other South Pacific Islands because of the exceptionally large number of Islands it is comprised of- 1000 Islands in total. And because these Islands are far apart from one another, most beaches on Solomon Islands are beautiful, undisturbed and powdery. The main destinations for tourists on Solomon Islands are Guadalcanal, Santa Isabel, Malaita, San Cristobal , New Georgia and Choiseul.

Cook Islands are significant parts of Polynesia, strategically located 3,500 km northeast New Zealand and 1000km southwest a neighboring Island of Tahiti. Recently, Cook Islands have become the ideal places for people who are constantly in search of quiet and naturally beautiful beaches. These beaches have been able to retain their neat and powdery nature because of the Islands ' small population, and the absence of many tourists that could have spoilt them.

Fiji's historical places have always been attractive to thousands of foreign visitors who have visited the country. In the capital, Suva , National Museum is located within the environs of the amazing Thurston Gardens , beside Government House. Another important landmarks are the old Parliament Buildings that stand as monuments to explain Fiji 's experimentation with democracy.

New Caledonia has some of the richest marine life in the world, as both its freshwater and ocean ecology are diverse and extremely unique. The country's fresh water rivers and streams are home to many native species. Scuba divers and snorkelers enjoy immensely the New Caledonia Barrier Reef , which is off the coast of Grande Terre and the Isle of Pines (Île des Pins) and is the second-largest coral reef in the world. Over 1,500 kilometers long, this reef is home to endangered dugongs (or sea cows), and continues to be a nesting site for green sea turtles. In addition, the Nautilus, a living-fossil species which existed during the pre-historic age of the dinosaurs, still survives in the waters surrounding New Caledonia.

The Kingdom of Tonga is an excellent vacation hot spot. The archipelago has beautiful landscape and weather that offers an instant sense of relief and relaxation. The culture is very welcoming to visitors and attending a feast will make tourists feel right at home. Also, the attractions and outdoor activities are enough to bring a spirit of exploration and adventure.

South of Tokyo and east of Philippines , Palau is an island nation that emerged from United Nations trusteeship in 1994, which makes it one of the worlds, not only smallest, but youngest nations. Its official name is Belu'u era Belau ( Republic of Palau ), which is why it is sometimes in English referred to under its native name Belau.
